The classroom
Florence’s working life began in front of a primary school class.
She trained at Mzuzu Teachers’ Training College and earned her Primary Teacher Certificate in 1993.
2001 to 2007
English and Geography
With a Diploma in Education from Domasi College of Education, Florence taught English and Geography at four secondary schools.

Back to study
Florence went back to university as a mature-entry student and earned a BA in Human Resource Management at Chancellor College, University of Malawi.
Her classmates made her class president, then vice class president. In 2007 she joined the public service as a Human Resource Management Officer.
2010 · China
Tsinghua University
An International Master of Public Administration at Tsinghua University. Her thesis looked at work ethics and performance in Malawi’s public service.
Her cohort made her class president. Again.
2012 to 2018
Up through the ranks
Back home, Florence rose step by step through the public service’s human resource ranks, training in leadership and change on the way.

2020 to 2024
The Commission
In 2020 Florence became Senior Deputy Director, and Executive Secretary of the Government Health Service Commission, a post she held until 2024.
